How To Service A Honda Izy Mower

Service Your Honda Izy Mower

Our Handy Guide To Help You Service Your Honda Izy Mower.

Regularly servicing your Honda Izy Petrol Lawn Mower will increase it’s life expectancy and maintain a high level of performance.

We recommended that you perform a basic service annually (ideally at the end of the season prior to winter storage). In this blog we’ll cover some quick and simple tips and provide links to all the parts you will need to carry out this work effectively.

Step 1: Cleaning

It might go without saying, but your Honda Izy Mower (or any Petrol Mower for that matter) needs regular cleaning. In particular, the underside! I know, nobody likes to look under there and we pretend that the blade compartment doesn’t exist. But left uncared for, this is the main reason why the entire Metal Body of your mower will rust away to nothing.

In an ideal world, cleaning is best done after every cut, grasses can be easily brushed off with a stiff brush. Alternatively, doing it at the end of the season will result in the grasses “cementing” themselves to the body. This must be scraped away using a flat bladed scraper / wire brush or similar.

Top Tip: Don’t Tip Your Mower On Its Side!

Do Not Tip Your Petrol Mower On Its Side

If you tip your Honda Izy on its side, it will allow oil to access parts of the engine it should never get too or even leave the engine entirely. And lets face it, no one wants engine oil all over their lawn or driveway!

The safe way to access the underside of your Honda Izy is to firstly, undo the Handle Bar Wing Nuts to the last part of the thread (do not remove fully). Secondly, spread the handle bars apart and fold them forwards. And finally, lift the grass flap up in the air then lift the front of the mower in to the air until it firmly stands up on the grass flap / handle bars.

Step 2: Blade Sharpen or Replace

A major part of servicing your Honda Izy mower is to maintain its cutting performance and a blunt or damaged blade just won’t cut it! Once you’ve cleaned the underside of your mower, you will see 3 bolts holding the blade on. You only need to remove the outer 2 Blade Bolts. The middle bolt is to remove the Blade Holder which you don’t need to do.

Once you’ve removed the blade, you can then sharpen and balance it; as long as it is not damaged, bent or excessively worn. Balancing the blade is just as important as sharpening and most people don’t have the tools required to complete this so replacing the blade is often far easier:

Step 3: Engine Service

With the use of our Honda Izy Service Kit you can replace your Engine Oil + Spark Plug + Air Filter in no time at all. You may require a few extra tools to complete this task however such as a deep 21mm Socket to remove the spark plug and a Suction Pump to remove the engine oil.

Simply replace your spark plug + air filter, start and run the engine for approx 3-5 mins to allow the oil to warm up. Then use the Oil Suction Syringe to remove it. Refill to the required level using your dipstick to check along the way.
